Outlook Not Receiving Emails From Gmail

Gmail and Outlook are some of the most popular email clients used by individuals and organizations. Though both the email applications come with some amazing features, users may experience some issues while using them. One common red flag you are going to face is Outlook not getting emails from Gmail. Let us tell you a brief about IMAP. The IMAP is an Internet Message Access Protocol. It helps in retrieving email messages from a mail server through a TCP/IP connection. Now there are two different methods by which you can configure your Gmail IMAP settings in Outlook 2016. If you wish to start receiving Gmail emails in Outlook, you need to see if you have properly configured the Gmail email settings in Outlook.


  • Incoming mail server:
  • Requires SSL: Yes
  • Incoming port number: 993


  • Outgoing mail server:
  • Requires SSL: Yes
  • Requires TLS: Yes, if applicable
  • Authentication: Yes
  • Outgoing port number: 465 (SSL), 587 (TLS)


  • Step 1:Open Outlook 2016.
  • Step 2:Click the Info option on the left and select Account settings.
  • Step 3:Click the New button.
  • Step 4:Select the Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP option.
  • Step 5:Click the Next button.

Enter the following information in the respective fields:

  • Your Name: Enter a Name
  • Email address: The Gmail email address
  • Password: The Gmail password
  • Retype Password: Re-enter the Gmail password for verification.
  • Click the Next button.
  • Outlook will automatically configure the settings.
  • Click Finish to close.

You have set up your Gmail account in Outlook.


  • Step 1:Open the default browser.
  • Step 2:Enter the Gmail URL in the address bar and press the Enter button.
  • Step 3:The Gmail page will open; enter the login credentials to access your account.
  • Step 4:Once you have entered your Gmail account, click the Settings (gear) icon at the top right corner of the screen.
  • Step 5:The Gmail settings page will open. Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
  • Step 6:In the IMAP Access section, click the Enable IMAP radio button.

  • Click the Save Changes button.
  • The initial configuration is now complete in Gmail.

You can proceed with the final steps of configuration to link Outlook to Gmail.

  • Open the Microsoft Outlook application.
  • Click the File tab in the menu bar and select the Account Settings option.
  • Click the New option in the Accounts Setting dialog box, select the Email account option.

  • In the Email Account setup, click Manual Setup at the bottom of the page.
  • Click the Next button.
  • Select the POP or IMAP radio button.

Add the following information to complete the procedure.


  • Enter your Gmail username in the required field.
  • Enter your Gmail Email Address in the required field.


Choose IMAP from the drop-down list.

  • Incoming mail server:
  • Outgoing mail server:
  • User name: Your Gmail address
  • Password: Your Gmail password
  • Click the More Settings button.
  • Select the Outgoing server tab.
  • Click the checkbox for the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication option.
  • Click the Advanced tab, enter the following information.

  • Incoming server- 993, Encrypted connection- SSL
  • Outgoing server- 465, Encrypted connection- SSL
  • Click the checkbox for the Sent Items and Deleted items option, click the OK button.
  • Now Microsoft Outlook will run the test connection. The configuration will take some time to confirm the settings.
  • Click Finish.
