How To Fix Gmail Smtp Authentication Failed Error?

The Gmail SMTP authentication failed error issue in Gmail is encountered by most of the users when an incorrect SMTP server settings are entered. Some of the other causes of this issue are less secure apps, 2-steps verification, etc.

  • Make sure that you have entered the POP3/IMAP and SMTP settings correctly. 
  • If not, re-configure your Gmail account credentials correctly and then check if the SMTP authentication failed issue is resolved.

  • Sign in to your Gmail account.
  • Locate and click the Security option.
  • In the Security dialog box, locate and expand the Basic Settings section.
  • Now, the Basic Settings window will open.
  • Scroll down the window and locate the Less secure app section.
  • Click the Go to settings for less secure apps option in the Less secure app section.
  • Now, the Advanced security settings window will open.
  • Enable the Allow users to manage their access to less secure apps option by clicking the radio button beside it.
  • Click the Save button provided at the bottom of the Advanced security settings screen.
  • Now, navigate to the My Account section.
  • Click the Sign In & Security option on the My Account screen to fix the Gmail SMTP authentication failed error.
  • Locate and click the Connected Apps & Sites option located at the left-hand side of the screen.
  • Go to the Allow less secure app: ON section and click the toggle button beside it.
