Compuserve, the most popular online service provider, has changed its format. You can use the newly revised format while configuring Compuserve email settings. Here, in this article, we’ll be discussing how to configure CompuServe email settings for your Outlook account.

Configuring Compuserve email settings for an Outlook account:

  • Step 1:On your computer, open the Outlook application.
  • Step 2:Select the File tab and then go to the Information section.
  • Step 3:Under the Information section, select Account Settings.
  • Step 4:Now, choose the Manual setup or additional server types radio button in the Add account window and then click Next.
  • Step 5:Select IMAP or POP and then click Next.
  • Step 6:The POP or IMAP Account Settings window opens now. It's now time to enter the server setting details. The server setting details are mentioned below. You can check them and start entering the details in the required fields.

Server settings information required for configuring Compuserve email on Outlook:

  • Step 1:Under the User Information section, type your name and then your email address in the name and email address fields, respectively.
  • Step 2:Under the Server Information section, choose your Account type for configuring your Compuserve email settings from the Account type drop-down menu. You can choose your account type as POP or IMAP. Keep reading to know how to configure CompuServe email settings.

Note: The following details are applicable to the POP account type users.

  • Step 1:In the Incoming mail server field, you can enter the server name as
  • Step 2:Type in the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) field.
  • Step 3:Now, under the Logon Information section, you can enter your Compuserve email address in the User name field and then type in a unique password.
  • Step 4:Enable the Remember password checkbox.
  • Step 5:After filling in the details mentioned above, select the More Settings button located at the bottom of the window. The Internet Email Settings window opens.
  • Step 6:In this window, click the Outgoing Server tab. You’ll find the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox at the top. Enable it.
  • Step 7:Now, select the Use same settings as my incoming mail server radio button.
  • Step 8:Click the Advanced tab. Here, in this tab, you need to enter the required port numbers.

Port numbers for Compuserve email settings:

  • Step 1:In the Incoming server field, enter the port number as 110.
  • Step 2:For the Outgoing server (SMTP) field, enter the port number as 25.
  • Step 3:Finally, click OK.
  • Step 4:Now, your Outlook account starts to test the details that you’ve entered. It takes about a few seconds. The Test Account Settings window appears on the screen, displaying the status of your task. Click Close to complete the configuration process.
  • Step 5:Finally, click Finish.
